Recognized as “China’s No. 1 Exhibition,” the China Import and Export Fair (also known as the Canton Fair) is China’s longest-running, largest, most comprehensive international trade event with the widest product range, the largest number of buyers from the widest range of sources, the best transaction results, and the highest reputation.

About the Canton Fair
When I searched for the “Canton Fair” tag on Reddit and Quora, I found numerous inquiries about the Canton Fair. This is fantastic, so I wanted to condense it into this article to answer common questions.
History of the Canton Fair
Twice a year, the world’s top executives gather in Guangzhou for a spectacular event. Do you know which one? That’s right: the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), located in Guangzhou, China.
Founded on April 25, 1957, the Canton Fair is held annually in spring and autumn at the China Import and Export Fair Complex on Pazhou Island in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District.
As the only Chinese commercial city with uninterrupted foreign trade for over 2,000 years, Guangzhou enjoys the reputation of a “Millennium Commercial Capital.”

This year, new requirements have been added: exhibitors (booth managers) must provide proof of social security coverage for the past three months, while regular employees must provide proof of social security coverage for the past month.
This eliminates booth transfers and the misuse of other people’s credentials, enhancing the authenticity and reliability of exhibitors’ identities.
Canton Fair’s Industry Status
The Canton Fair has successfully held its 137th edition to date, with the 138th edition slated for October.
As the oldest and largest international trade fair in China, it has attracted more than 20,000 high-quality suppliers from various industries at home and abroad to participate in the exhibition. The exhibition has a full range of categories and attracted buyers from more than 210 countries and regions around the world.
The Canton Fair employs a rigorous supplier screening process to ensure the export qualifications and product quality of participating companies. Therefore, buyers can be confident in finding trustworthy partners.

If you are interested in learning about innovative products related to your industry, you can also meet with merchants in person for talks.
How to Find Reliable LED Headlight Suppliers at Canton Fair 2025
After finding a supplier at a trade show, you’ll want to sit down with them, ask various questions about product quality, learn how the supplier will support your first order, test samples, and finally plan a factory visit.
After your visit and understanding of the manufacturer’s reliability, close the deal and plan your purchase.
If you’re new and haven’t yet selected a project to source, you’ll have a tough time at the trade show.
- During this period, hotel and expat restaurant prices have risen, making your daily expenses increasingly expensive.
- There’s an overabundance of information on various items, leaving little time to make purchasing decisions.
- You don’t want to attend all three stages of the exhibition because you’ll have to bear the costs.
- The minimum order quantity for each item is so high, with most starting at 1,000 pieces.
Therefore, I recommend identifying your niche and then attending the corresponding exhibition stage.
Your sourcing project is also important.
Clarifying your project type will help you quickly access newer and better suppliers.
On the other hand, the Canton Fair offers security due to its rigorous screening process. Not everyone is eligible to exhibit at the fair. Only suppliers with the ability to produce export-quality products are allowed to participate.
But some people also asked me if it was worth attending the show even though I was just starting and looking for new business.
My answer is, of course. Many customers find limited information and options online, unlike seeing it in person.
You should do some prep and planning before you go to make the most out of it.
- What is your business idea?
- What kind of products and suppliers are you looking for?
- Where and how are you going to sell?
- How much capital does it take, and how much do you have?
Visiting and communicating with suppliers in person can avoid many problems.
